Combination of LED therapy and Oxygen promotes rapid tissue regeneration and accelerates wound healing – NASA research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A TASK:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of oxygen therapy and near infrared LED therapy on wound healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BACKGROUND DATA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs), originally developed for NASA’s plant-growing experiments in space, show the promise of delivering light deep into body tissues to accelerate wound healing and tissue growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we review and present our new data on LED treatments on cultured cells, on ischemic and diabetic wounds in rat models, and on acute and chronic wounds in humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

MATERIALS AND METHODS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In vitro and in vivo studies (animals and humans), various parameters of the wavelength, power and energy density of LEDs were used to begin to determine the conditions for each biological tissue that are optimal for biostimulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RESULTS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LED, increases growth by 155-171% of normal human epithelial cells. The size of the wound has decreased to 36%<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 LED irradiation improved musculoskeletal injuries by over 40% in the training of Navy SEAL team members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OUTPUT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the LED in NASA’s light therapy programs will improve the natural wound healing process and bring the patient back to a pre-injury \/ illness activity level faster. This work is supported and managed by the Marshall Space Flight Center NASA-SBIR program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
