Septoplasty – to align the nasal septum in Kyiv
Septoplasty (from Latin `septum – septum` and `plasticum – plastic`) is a plastic surgery that is performed on a special area of the nose. Septum is the medical term for the nasal septum.
In other words, the essence of septoplasty is to correct the curvature of the nasal septum and restore normal breathing.
Curvature of the nasal septum can be acquired as a result of trauma or surgery, or it can be congenital. In any case, everyone wants to look decent, and plastic surgery can help with this.
The minimal consequence of septum curvature is low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence. The maximum consequences are already serious physiological defects that reduce the patient’s quality of life.
Main indications for nose surgery:
- Severe nasal defect
- Violation of nasal breathing
- Apnea
- Snoring
- Allergic and chronic rhinitis
- Extraneous sounds in nasal breathing
- Injuries
- Chronic diseases of the nose and nasopharynx
Septoplasty, as part of classic rhinoplasty, has several methods to correct defects.

Classical septoplasty at the Coollaser Clinic.
This is a surgical procedure to correct the nasal septum. The execution time is individual, but it fluctuates within 1.5 hours.
The incision is made in an inconspicuous place on the mucous membrane. The surgeon flattens the nasal septum to the desired result and sutures the incision.

Compared to other methods, the classical operation has a slightly longer post-rehabilitation period.
Laser septoplasty.
Relatively easy surgery. Correction of the nasal septum is carried out using a laser, which means that the method itself is almost bloodless. The laser simultaneously removes defects and cauterizes the wound.
Laser septoplasty of the septum is sometimes performed under local anesthesia, which greatly facilitates postoperative recovery of the body. However, it is believed that such surgery without general anesthesia is only suitable for people with strong nerves.
Endoscopic septoplasty.
A more complex, but at the same time more accurate method of correcting the nasal septum.
Endoscopic surgery involves the use of a medical probe. The probe, at the end of which the camera is located, is inserted into the cavity. Thanks to this, the surgeon performs the operation with high precision.
In terms of time, this is one of the most time-consuming operations and can take up to 2 hours. During endoscopic septoplasty, either general anesthesia or local anesthesia is used.
At the moment, this method is the most popular and highly accurate, less traumatic, but more complicated.
The method of operation and the method of anesthesia are selected in each case individually and in agreement with the surgeon.
People with a deviated nasal septum are doomed to:
- Poor sleep due to difficulty breathing at night
- Drying of the oral mucosa due to constant mouth breathing
- More often susceptible to infectious diseases, as microbes enter the body faster and more easily through the mouth
Contraindications to septoplasty:
- Oncology
- Acute respiratory diseases
- Diseases of the heart and blood vessels
- Blood clotting disorder
- Diabetes
- Younger and older age
Septoplasty today is one of the most popular and not particularly difficult plastic surgery.
